About the CableTester PCB

CableTester is an open source PCB design by IoannisP-ITENG, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 50 × 50 mm, with 104 components from 8 distinct parts.

USB type-C and UTP cable tester designed in faebryk

USB type-C and UTP cable tester designed in faebryk

This is a simple USB type-C and UTP cable continuity tester. It lights up the LED corresponding to the strand it is testing when there is an electrical connection. The tester is powered with 5V via the PD compliant USB type-C connector.

This project is build with the open-source EDA faebryk.

This project is usefull as a simple cable tester for UTP and USB type-C cables, however it is very easy to add additional connectors for different cable types due to faebryk.

CableTester: common questions

How big is the CableTester PCB?

The CableTester measures 50 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the CableTester?

104 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CableTester design files?

From the IoannisP-ITENG/CableTester repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CableTester design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which IoannisP-ITENG chose for the repository.
