About the Ortho Base PCB

Ortho Base is an open source PCB design by oceanKeebs, published on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 269.6 × 123.6 mm, with 189 components from 9 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 61 LEDs, 55 switches, 55 diodes and 6 resistors.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

KeebPort, a split Keyboard architecture using a single micro controller as a central "port"

Keeb Port is a split keyboard architecture with a central part housing a micro controller and 6 keys (two keys can be replaced with encoders optionally). Right and left part of the split keyboard do not include a micro controller but an IO expander (MCP23017) processing the key activation information and connected via i2c to the central part. The LED control signal is generated by the micro controller and provided via a separate line to both split keyboard parts. Central and split keyboard parts are connected with TRRRS (5-pin). All layouts share the same firmware.

Ortho Base: common questions

How big is the Ortho Base PCB?

The Ortho Base measures 269.6 × 123.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ortho Base?

189 components, from 9 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ortho Base design files?

From the oceanKeebs/KeebPort repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ortho Base design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-2.0 license, which oceanKeebs chose for the repository.
