About the Tactile-Skin PCB

Tactile-Skin is an open source PCB design by aidanmohammed-ali, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 75 × 38 mm, with 12 components from 8 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 7 capacitors and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the sensors, robotics & motion and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

A high-resolution, low-power capacitive tactile sensing technology optimised for use in wearable devices, robotics and healthcare.

This project focuses on creating a thin, flexible tactile skin that measures mechanical pressure, rather than just proximity. This repository contains the firmware and signal processing logic to convert physical deformation and capacitance into usable digital data and the schematics and Gerber files for the requisite hardware.

The tactile skin is built around a 16 x 8 capacitive matrix sensor. Each taxel in the matrix responds to local pressure-induced deformation, producing a change in capacitance that can be mapped into a two-dimensional tactile image. This layout provides a compact…

Tactile-Skin: common questions

How big is the Tactile-Skin PCB?

The Tactile-Skin measures 75 × 38 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tactile-Skin?

12 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tactile-Skin design files?

From the aidanmohammed-ali/Tactile-Skin repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tactile-Skin design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with aidanmohammed-ali. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
