About the Ifm spark dev PCB

Ifm spark dev is an open source STM32 PCB design by ALeggeUp, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 23.4 × 24.6 mm, with 21 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F030x4, from the STM32 family. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 connectors, 5 capacitors, 2 diodes, 1 IC and 1 crystal.

IFM Spark Dev Board is a minimal Cortex-M0 dev board for experimentation. The firmware is an example project that uses Gradle to build and test an embedded application. It uses the examples included with the CppUTest project to show how it would work, the embedded application doesn't do anything other than contain the objects to test.

Gradle requires Java, but with the included gradlew that should be all that is needed to build the firmware image. This project as part of its initialization should pull down the toolchain needed to build the firmware image.

Ifm spark dev: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ifm spark dev use?

The Ifm spark dev is built around the STM32F030x4, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Ifm spark dev PCB?

The Ifm spark dev measures 23.4 × 24.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ifm spark dev?

21 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ifm spark dev design files?

From the ALeggeUp/ifm-spark-dev repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ifm spark dev design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which ALeggeUp chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Ifm spark dev without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
