About the Wavecatcher PCB

Wavecatcher is an open source STM32 PCB design by anfractuosity, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 43.2 × 44.5 mm, with 34 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F302RBTx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LP38693MP-3.3. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 10 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 crystals, 2 connectors and 2 diodes.

From the project

Wavecatcher - simple board for acoustic cryptanalysis

https://www.anfractuosity.com/projects/wavecatcher/ - please see this website for more detail on the project.

The project will be used for acoustic cryptanalysis - "Acoustic cryptanalysis is a type of side channel attack that exploits sounds emitted by computers or other devices".

A number of aspects of computers emit ultrasound including SMPSs to inductors and capacitors present on the computer's motherboard itself.

Wavecatcher: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wavecatcher use?

The Wavecatcher is built around the STM32F302RBTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Wavecatcher PCB?

The Wavecatcher measures 43.2 × 44.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wavecatcher?

34 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wavecatcher design files?

From the anfractuosity/wavecatcher repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wavecatcher design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with anfractuosity. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Wavecatcher without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
