About the EPROMEmu PCB

EPROMEmu is an open source NXP PCB design by BrianPeek, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 69 × 48 mm, with 8 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the SN74LVC827APWR. By type, the board carries 4 ICs, 3 capacitors and 1 connector.

I've decided to make this public in the rare event it might help someone.

This is a very simple, likely very wrong (EP)ROM emulator using a Teensy 4.1 and Arduino/PlatformIO. It works for my purposes (emulating an EPROM for use in an Atari Lynx EPROM cartridge), but it it is probably not the "correct" way to design hardware. I have also used it on Game Gear and Vectrex EPROM cartridges, but it was not heavily tested.

EPROMEmu: common questions

What microcontroller does the EPROMEmu use?

The EPROMEmu is built around the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the EPROMEmu PCB?

The EPROMEmu measures 69 × 48 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the EPROMEmu?

8 components, from 4 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the EPROMEmu design files?

From the BrianPeek/EPROMEmu repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the EPROMEmu design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with BrianPeek. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the EPROMEmu without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
