About the Detect PCB

Detect is an open source STM32 PCB design by HarveyBates, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 29.1 × 45.1 mm, with 27 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the KA7812ETU, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the 163-179PH-EX. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 6 resistors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 jumpers and 1 crystal.

From the project

An open-source Arduino based chlorophyll fluorometer for quantifying photosynthesis in photosynthetic organisms.

Open-JIP is an open-source chlorophyll a fluorometer used to quantify photosynthetic phenotypes in terrestrial plants and microalgae. It is controlled via a Teensy microcontroller and features highly customisable electrical components and a 3D-printed infrastructure.

Open-JIP utilises a technique known as the fast polyphasic rise fluorescence (also known as OJIP). Steady irradiance is provided from an emitting LED, this excites photosynthetic antenna in the sample resulting in excess irradiance being emitted as photons of a longer wavelength (i.e. fluorescence). The emitted fluorescence…

Detect: common questions

What microcontroller does the Detect use?

The Detect is built around the KA7812ETU, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Detect PCB?

The Detect measures 29.1 × 45.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Detect?

27 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Detect design files?

From the HarveyBates/Open-JIP repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Detect design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with HarveyBates. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Detect without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
