About the GaussSpeedway PCB

GaussSpeedway is an open source STM32 PCB design by mcbridejc, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 212.5 × 152.5 mm, with 39 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F051C6T7, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP1754ST-3302E/CB and ZXBM5210-SP-13. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 12 resistors, 5 ICs, 3 transformers, 3 inductors and 2 connectors.

The board is a 4-layer board. I typically order it in black soldermask, although this is of course not necessary. I also typically do 1oz inner copper (thinner copper is typically the default) in order to get the trace resistance down.

The holes in the corners are designed to accomodate M3 screws for mounting. The PCB mounts into a 3D printable frame, which has holes to accomodate M3 threaded heat inserts. You can also get by just putting four stand-offs on the corners.

GaussSpeedway: common questions

What microcontroller does the GaussSpeedway use?

The GaussSpeedway is built around the STM32F051C6T7, from the STM32 family.

How big is the GaussSpeedway PCB?

The GaussSpeedway measures 212.5 × 152.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 4.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the GaussSpeedway?

39 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GaussSpeedway design files?

From the mcbridejc/GaussSpeedway repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GaussSpeedway design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mcbridejc. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the GaussSpeedway without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
