About the BivalveBit PCB

BivalveBit is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by millerlp, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 89.9 × 17.8 mm, with 53 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA4808-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LP5907MFX-3.0 and BJT_NPN. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 10 capacitors, 6 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 transistors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the wearables and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

BivalveBit firmware

Based around a ATmega4808 microcontroller Designed to fit inside a nominal 3/4" schedule 40 PVC plumbing pipe (<18.5mm inside diameter) along with an 18650 size Lithium-Ion battery cell. Provides one I2C 4-pin port for communicating with a IR heart rate sensor Provides one analog 4-pin port for communicating with an analog sensor such as the A1395 Hall effect sensor (with SLEEP pin on the 4th wire). * Writes data to a standard microSD card

BivalveBit: common questions

What microcontroller does the BivalveBit use?

The BivalveBit is built around the ATMEGA4808-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the BivalveBit PCB?

The BivalveBit measures 89.9 × 17.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BivalveBit?

53 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BivalveBit design files?

From the millerlp/BivalveBit repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BivalveBit design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which millerlp chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the BivalveBit without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
