About the Apiaster PCB

Apiaster is an open source PCB design by nmunnich, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 146.1 × 118.8 mm, with 98 components from 13 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 25 diodes, 20 jumpers, 6 connectors and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Apiaster is a 50 key keyboard designed to be cheap, adjustable, and upgradeable.

There are a number of reasons why someone might be interested in a split, column-staggered[^1] keyboard such as the Apiaster. Most commonly, ergonomics and comfort. Ergonomics is something that tends to be specific to each individual though, making selecting such a keyboard difficult. Both individuals lost for choice and individuals who have amassed a collection of three or more keyboards in the search for their perfect ergonomic experience are not uncommon to see.

Apiaster: common questions

How big is the Apiaster PCB?

The Apiaster measures 146.1 × 118.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Apiaster?

98 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Apiaster design files?

From the nmunnich/apiaster repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Apiaster design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
