About the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch PCB

KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch is an open source STM32 PCB design by nordeim, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 80 mm, with 3 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the LM2596S-5.0, from the STM32 family. By type, the board carries 1 IC, 1 transistor and 1 connector.

From the project

RS-485 4-Channel 12V Load Controller (Industrial, PWM-capable)

Design a compact, industrial‑grade, 4‑channel RS‑485 load controller that’s ready to open in KiCad 7/8. I’ve tuned it for PWM of solenoids, relays, and DC motors; 2‑m shielded twisted‑pair RS‑485; rugged protection; and a compact 2‑layer layout with 2 oz copper pours for the high‑current paths.

What you’re getting - A complete KiCad project (schematic + PCB) you can open immediately - 4 channels, IRLZ44N low‑side switches, TC4468 quad gate driver for crisp PWM at 5V gate - Per‑channel Schottky flyback diodes + TVS clamps - INA180 current sense + 50 mΩ shunts for diagnostics/faults - THVD1450…

KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch: common questions

What microcontroller does the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch use?

The KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch is built around the LM2596S-5.0, from the STM32 family.

How big is the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch PCB?

The KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch measures 100 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch?

3 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch design files?

From the nordeim/KiCad-RS485_LoadSwitch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with nordeim. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the KiCad-RS485 LoadSwitch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
