About the Gpsfreak PCB

Gpsfreak is an open source STM32 PCB design by rcls, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 79.8 × 47.2 mm, with 124 components from 42 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H503KBUx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MAX-M10S, LMK05318BRGZR, TG5032CGN, TPS82084SIL and TPS7A8801RTJR. By type, the board carries 50 capacitors, 39 resistors, 20 inductors, 9 ICs, 3 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

GPS disciplined frequency generator

GPSfreak — GPS Disciplined Frequency Generator =================================================

GPSfreak is a flexible, programmable, high-accuracy, low-jitter, frequency generator, using GPS as a reference.

There are 5 outputs via SMA connectors, with 4 separately programmable frequencies derived from 2 PLLs.

The outputs are driven by a Texas Instruments LMK05318b clock generator, and a U-Blox MAX-10 GPS receiver providing the overall frequency reference.

Gpsfreak: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gpsfreak use?

The Gpsfreak is built around the STM32H503KBUx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Gpsfreak PCB?

The Gpsfreak measures 79.8 × 47.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gpsfreak?

124 components, from 42 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gpsfreak design files?

From the rcls/gpsfreak repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gpsfreak design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which rcls chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Gpsfreak without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
