About the Graphics card PCB

Graphics card is an open source STM32 PCB design by ShaneTWilliams, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 51.2 × 51.8 mm, with 75 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H753ZITx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AZ1117-5.0, AZ1117-3.3, AZ1117-1.2 and SiI1136. By type, the board carries 49 capacitors, 10 resistors, 5 ICs, 4 diodes, 3 inductors and 2 crystals.

Custom HDMI transmitter PCB with 480 MHz STM32H7 microcontroller

This board consists of an SiI1136 HDMI transmitter, driven by a dual-core 480 MHz STM32H745IIT6 microcontroller, with 64 MB of external SDRAM. It is USB-powered and uses SWD for flash and debug.

The goal of this project is to give me a custom, bare-metal platform on which I can try my hand at implementing simple graphics algorithms from scratch. The STM32 is key for this, with its dual cores, DMA2D (a DMA peripheral designed to fill frame buffers very quickly) and its LTDC peripheral, which will drive the display without any CPU load.

Graphics card: common questions

What microcontroller does the Graphics card use?

The Graphics card is built around the STM32H753ZITx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Graphics card PCB?

The Graphics card measures 51.2 × 51.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Graphics card?

75 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Graphics card design files?

From the ShaneTWilliams/worlds-worst-graphics-card repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Graphics card design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ShaneTWilliams chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Graphics card without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
