About the Open micro top PCB

Open micro top is an open source PCB design by TomBonness, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 96 × 96 mm, with 39 components from 4 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 13 diodes, 13 capacitors and 12 switches.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-source USB/BLE desktop programming controller with RGB status integration

Open Micro is an original open-source 96 × 96 mm desktop programming controller. Its industrial stack uses a CNC 6061-T6 aluminum bottom, a continuous neutral-frosted polycarbonate light-carrying wall, and a matte-black control PCB as the exposed structural top. A lower sister PCB carries the MCU, power, USB, RF, and eight hidden wall emitters.

This repository describes an unqualified two-board first article. Automated source, protocol, host, firmware, fabrication, CAD, collision, and artifact checks are design evidence only. No fabricated unit has completed docs/qualification.md; do not…

Open micro top: common questions

How big is the Open micro top PCB?

The Open micro top measures 96 × 96 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Open micro top?

39 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Open micro top design files?

From the TomBonness/open-micro repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Open micro top design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
