About the Wonkle PCB

Wonkle is an open source STM32 PCB design by wonkleio, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 204 × 174.9 mm, with 519 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F429IGT6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AH49HSC, CD74HC4067SM96 and TPS62152. By type, the board carries 256 capacitors, 230 ICs, 26 resistors, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

From the project

We build together.

- Every PCB is designed with KiCad v10.0.3. - you can learn more about each of the components and read their documentations at docs/components. Running bun run gen-docs will download PDF documentations.

Both prototype and production PCB is manufactured by [JLCPCB][jlcpcb].

1. Install [KiCad][kicad]. 2. Install the [Fabrication Toolkit][fab-toolkit] plugin. 3. "Generate" production files using the plugin with default settings. 4. Go to [jlcpcb.com][jlcpcb] and click "Add gerber file" 5. Select pcb/production/wonkle.zip 6. Configure PCB (you will get 5 pcb of which 2 have components soldered)…

Wonkle: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wonkle use?

The Wonkle is built around the STM32F429IGT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Wonkle PCB?

The Wonkle measures 204 × 174.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wonkle?

519 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wonkle design files?

From the wonkleio/wonkle repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wonkle design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which wonkleio chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Wonkle without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
