A beginner-friendly introduction to STM32 hardware design and KiCad

A beginner-friendly introduction to STM32 hardware design and KiCad. This is a minimal black-pill-style board built around the STM32F103C8T6 (ARM Cortex-M3), designed while following Phil's Lab's free full tutorial:

This project is just a beginner intro to STM32 hardware design and KiCad — the design is intentionally kept simple (no ESD protection, no fancy features) while following good design practices taught in the course. It is a learning project, not production-ready hardware.

STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course: common questions

What microcontroller does the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course use?

The STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course is built around the STM32F103C8T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course?

The STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course measures 42 × 33 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course?

28 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course design files?

From the abda-s/STM32-Phill-s-Lab-PCB-Course repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with abda-s. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the STM32-Phill s-Lab-PCB-Course without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
