About the Sonde PCB
Sonde is an open source PCB design by Alan-Jowett, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 25 × 35 mm, with 16 components from 11 distinct parts.
By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 connectors, 3 capacitors, 1 transistor and 1 inductor.
It belongs with the sensors, iot & wireless and test & measurement designs in this gallery.
From the project
A programmable, verifiable runtime for distributed sensor nodes. Nodes run uniform firmware and execute behavior defined by uBPF programs verified with Prevail. A gateway distributes programs, schedules, and configuration over the air — no firmware updates required. Hardware-agnostic with an ESP32 reference implementation.
The sonde carrier board is a 2-layer PCB that hosts a Seeed Studio XIAO module and provides connectors for I2C (Qwiic), 1-Wire sensors, and a 2×AA lithium battery pack. The board powers the MCU directly from the battery (no LDO) and includes a P-FET load switch for gating sensor power during deep sleep.
This board is the canonical base PCB for both contributor reference builds:

Sonde: common questions
How big is the Sonde PCB?
The Sonde measures 25 × 35 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Sonde?
16 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Sonde design files?
From the Alan-Jowett/sonde repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Sonde design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Alan-Jowett chose for the repository.
