About the Blinkenlights PCB

Blinkenlights is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by barafael, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 66 × 50 mm, with 85 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO PRO MINI, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP1700-5002E_TO92. By type, the board carries 30 resistors, 26 connectors, 16 diodes, 8 transistors, 2 capacitors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

simple light blinker for remote controlled aircraft (supports landing lights and standby mode set by flap and throttle channel)

The purpose of this board is to read some standard RC PWM channels, and switch the output MOSFETs accordingly. This can be used to blink lights on an RC airplane in patterns, for example. The input channel allows to switch between modes, like standard flying mode and Taxi/Standby modes. Or, a landing light can be switched on/off by a separate channel. The channels can be either dedicated lines from the receiver, or just other lines which are in use anyway. For example, the throttle signal could be used to switch between standby and flying, and the landing flaps signal could turn on/off the…

Blinkenlights: common questions

What microcontroller does the Blinkenlights use?

The Blinkenlights is built around the ARDUINO PRO MINI, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Blinkenlights PCB?

The Blinkenlights measures 66 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Blinkenlights?

85 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Blinkenlights design files?

From the barafael/blinkenlights repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Blinkenlights design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which barafael chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Blinkenlights without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
