About the SimTouch PCB

SimTouch is an open source PCB design by beantowel, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 97.3 × 67.7 mm, with 171 components from 6 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74HC595. By type, the board carries 80 diodes, 24 resistors, 2 ICs and 1 connector.

From the project

An attempt to make a Capacitive Touch Screen Stimulator

This project attempts to build a device which simulates human finger touch on a capacitive touch screen. We used two high-speed double diodes to build a switch which controls the connection between the conductive surface and the ground. If "the resistance be extremely high and the parasitic capacitance extremely low in the OFF state", then the induced equivalent capacitance would be very small, thus the touch screen won't detect it.

SimTouch: common questions

How big is the SimTouch PCB?

The SimTouch measures 97.3 × 67.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SimTouch?

171 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SimTouch design files?

From the beantowel/SimTouch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SimTouch design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which beantowel chose for the repository.
