About the MultiSpectLED PCB

MultiSpectLED is an open source NXP PCB design by benkrasnow, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 113.4 × 56 mm, with 117 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TeensyLC, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the PAM2804. By type, the board carries 30 capacitors, 30 resistors, 16 ICs, 15 diodes, 15 inductors and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Array of 15 1W LEDs spanning 280nm to 940nm

Notes: The 280nm LED has a forward voltage drop of between 5V and 7.5V depending on the voltage bin. This is higher that I expected when I designed the circuit, and it will not work if the power supply is really 5.0V. It should have a boost converter instead of a buck converter. However, I happened to receive an LED with a 5.1V drop, and my 5V wall adapter supplies 5.35V at 500mA, so the system works with the buck converter, just barely. This part of the circuit should be redesigned if 280nm is needed.

MultiSpectLED: common questions

What microcontroller does the MultiSpectLED use?

The MultiSpectLED is built around the TeensyLC, from the NXP family.

How big is the MultiSpectLED PCB?

The MultiSpectLED measures 113.4 × 56 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MultiSpectLED?

117 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MultiSpectLED design files?

From the benkrasnow/MultiSpectLED repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MultiSpectLED design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which benkrasnow chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MultiSpectLED without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
