About the Wireless measurements PCB

Wireless measurements is an open source Silicon Labs PCB design by benlhy, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30 × 23 mm, with 28 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the EFM8LB1, from the Silicon Labs family. Other key parts include the JDY-08, MCP16415, MAX44284, MAX40204 and Logo. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 8 resistors, 6 ICs, 1 connector, 1 switch and 1 diode.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, robotics & motion and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

A simple, compact wireless tool to measure low power circuits

You can retrieve the data with Python, NRF Connect App, or the Flutter app designed to display this data.

The SWM board uses an EFM8LB12 microcontroller from Silabs to do the analog measurements. The EFM8 is capable of 14-bit ADC measurements with multiple inputs.

The SWM board uses the JDY-08 Bluetooth module because it provides a simple and transparent way to communicate readings over BLE: just connect and send the data over UART. It is also a very low-cost module (< $4). It can also be replaced with the JDY-23 which provides lower power draw, UART baud rate of 9600, and a lower cost of <…

Wireless measurements: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wireless measurements use?

The Wireless measurements is built around the EFM8LB1, from the Silicon Labs family.

How big is the Wireless measurements PCB?

The Wireless measurements measures 30 × 23 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wireless measurements?

28 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wireless measurements design files?

From the benlhy/wireless_measurements repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wireless measurements design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with benlhy. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Wireless measurements without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Silicon Labs firmware against it before you order a PCB.
