About the Thermal-Sensor-System PCB

Thermal-Sensor-System is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by claraanhtran, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 152.4 × 40.6 mm, with 6 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

It belongs with the sensors and power & battery designs in this gallery.

A thermal sensor system for an amateur rocket.

Many thanks to Carter Trudeau and Kyle Chen for their help in this project.

We are part of the Chico Rocketry and Aerospace Club at California State University, Chico. This is the documentation of one of our electronic modules for our rocket - the Wildcat V, which our team brought to IREC 2025 (International Rocket Engineering Competition). The purpose of this module is to take measurements of the surrounding ambient temperature and inner surface temperature of the rocket before and during flight for simulation purposes. The components used in this project can be viewed in the Bill of…

Thermal-Sensor-System: common questions

What microcontroller does the Thermal-Sensor-System use?

The Thermal-Sensor-System is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Thermal-Sensor-System PCB?

The Thermal-Sensor-System measures 152.4 × 40.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Thermal-Sensor-System?

6 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Thermal-Sensor-System design files?

From the claraanhtran/Thermal-Sensor-System repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Thermal-Sensor-System design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which claraanhtran chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Thermal-Sensor-System without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
