About the Comms PCB

Comms is an open source STM32 PCB design by cuspaceflight, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80 × 50 mm, with 50 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F437VIT6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the ADP3335, MAX14787E and RJHSE-538x. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 9 diodes, 7 resistors, 5 crystals, 5 connectors and 4 ICs.

Hybrid Rocket Engine Ignition System

This repository contains the design files for the valve controller used by CU Spaceflight to control our hybrid rocket engine. It is capable of actuating up to 10x 24W solenoid valves simultaneously and is controlled over RS422 or USB by a GUI.

Comms: common questions

What microcontroller does the Comms use?

The Comms is built around the STM32F437VIT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Comms PCB?

The Comms measures 80 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Comms?

50 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Comms design files?

From the cuspaceflight/hybrid-ignition repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Comms design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cuspaceflight. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Comms without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
