About the Martlet 2 Radio Board

Martlet 2 Radio Board is an open source STM32 PCB design by cuspaceflight, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 75 mm, with 116 components from 41 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F303C, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the ADP3338, ADP3335, ADuM1201, MTX2 and ADL5324. By type, the board carries 36 capacitors, 25 test points, 14 resistors, 11 ICs, 11 diodes and 8 connectors.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

This PCB transmits rocket telemetry (lat, lng, alt, max alt) over a satellite radio and 70cm radio link.

This PCB transmits rocket telemetry (lat, lng, alt, max alt) over a satellite radio and 70cm radio link.

The satellite radio uses a RockBLOCK Iridium modem. The 70cm link will use an NTX2b from Radiometrix with a standard 1/4 wave antenna, in a similar setup to the usual HAB case.

There's some possibility for clever radio modes and coding to be used, but it will depend on how much time is available.

Martlet 2 Radio Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Martlet 2 Radio Board use?

The Martlet 2 Radio Board is built around the STM32F303C, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Martlet 2 Radio Board?

The Martlet 2 Radio Board measures 50 × 75 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Martlet 2 Radio Board?

116 components, from 41 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Martlet 2 Radio Board design files?

From the cuspaceflight/m2-electronics repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Martlet 2 Radio Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cuspaceflight. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Martlet 2 Radio Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
