About the Toy satellite model PCB

Toy satellite model is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by el-bart, published on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 43.7 × 21.1 mm, with 21 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny13-20SU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the AP3015. By type, the board carries 6 capacitors, 5 resistors, 4 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 diodes and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

solar-powered toy for children. when solar panels (PVs) are unfolded, it transmits a message configured in main.cpp, using morse code. currently the message is "hello humans of the planet earth". :) message repeats as long as there is power.

PV panels are foldable. it is possible to hold them in place with 5x5x1mm neodymium magnets. in practice however friction-fit of a print is enough.

Toy satellite model: common questions

What microcontroller does the Toy satellite model use?

The Toy satellite model is built around the ATtiny13-20SU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Toy satellite model PCB?

The Toy satellite model measures 43.7 × 21.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Toy satellite model?

21 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Toy satellite model design files?

From the el-bart/toy_satellite_model repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Toy satellite model design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-3-Clause license, which el-bart chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Toy satellite model without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
