About the CHEEP Board

CHEEP Board is an open source PCB design by esl-epfl, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 17.5 × 23.9 mm, with 32 components from 8 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the HEEPocrates, W25Q128JWYIQ, SN74AUP2G08DQER and SN74AUP1G14DSFR. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 9 resistors and 5 ICs.

It belongs with the wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

Modular hardware platform based on the RISC-V X-HEEP family architecture developed at ESL, targeting ultra-low-power consumption and miniaturization, facilitating the creation of wearable devices for clinical trials

A collection of compact, power-efficient PCB modules designed for rapid prototyping and development of wearable healthcare devices, with a focus on biosignal acquisition.

X-MODs provides a modular hardware approach that bridges the gap between fully custom designs and off-the-shelf solutions. The system consists of four specialized modules and their corresponding debug boards, enabling quick prototyping while maintaining the small form factor required for wearable applications.

CHEEP Board: common questions

How big is the CHEEP Board?

The CHEEP Board measures 17.5 × 23.9 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the CHEEP Board?

32 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CHEEP Board design files?

From the esl-epfl/X-MODs repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CHEEP Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with esl-epfl. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
