About the AVRCubeRev2 PCB

AVRCubeRev2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Franzelfx, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 61.6 × 63.5 mm, with 25 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATtiny24-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MMA8653FCR1. By type, the board carries 7 diodes, 7 resistors, 5 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 connector and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A coin-cell powered electronic dice and two-axis spirit level on an ATtiny24 — seven LEDs, one button, one accelerometer, and a bit-banged I²C bus that shares its pins with the ISP header.

A coin-cell powered electronic dice and two-axis spirit level on an ATtiny24 — seven LEDs, one button, one accelerometer, and a bit-banged I²C bus that shares its pins with the ISP header.

Shake it and it rolls a number; press the button and the same seven LEDs become a bubble level that follows the tilt of the board. It sleeps after a minute of stillness and wakes on the button, so a CR2032 lasts a long time. Designed as an easy, satisfying through-hole soldering kit: 25 parts, all on one side.

AVRCubeRev2: common questions

What microcontroller does the AVRCubeRev2 use?

The AVRCubeRev2 is built around the ATtiny24-20PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the AVRCubeRev2 PCB?

The AVRCubeRev2 measures 61.6 × 63.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the AVRCubeRev2?

25 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the AVRCubeRev2 design files?

From the Franzelfx/AVRCubeRev2 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the AVRCubeRev2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Franzelfx chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the AVRCubeRev2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
