About the Impedance matcher PCB

Impedance matcher is an open source NXP PCB design by hacker-fab, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 72 × 63 mm, with 47 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TEENSY_4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the TLV2372IP. By type, the board carries 15 resistors, 8 capacitors, 4 inductors, 2 diodes, 1 IC and 1 module.

From the project

Automatic impedance matcher for RF sputtering chamber at CMU Hacker Fab

Teensy 4.1 control loop firmware, custom PCB/CAD hardware, and Python telemetry logging/plotting tools.

Arduino libraries: Adafruit SSD1306, Adafruit GFX, and TMCStepper (GUI build); TMCStepper only for headless.

- GUI: Gradient-style matching toward lower VSWR; loop runs matching, encoder poll, then OLED refresh. - Headless: Same matching; control via serial (stream on, help, etc.).

Impedance matcher: common questions

What microcontroller does the Impedance matcher use?

The Impedance matcher is built around the TEENSY_4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the Impedance matcher PCB?

The Impedance matcher measures 72 × 63 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Impedance matcher?

47 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Impedance matcher design files?

From the hacker-fab/impedance-matcher repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Impedance matcher design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Impedance matcher without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
