About the NFC message switcher PCB

NFC message switcher is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Iceteavanill, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85.6 × 54 mm, with 8 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY402, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ST25DV04K. By type, the board carries 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 resistors and 1 jumper.

This project is an implementation of an NFC tag which is able to change the message. It communicates to a host device. It was developed to be quickly assembled and easy to use but still be a bit more than a blinking light. It uses the reference implementation for the bare metal TWI driver.

The main device is the ST25DV04K. It can communicate via NFC and I2C. When an NFC capable device is held near the PCB, the ST25DV04K starts to receive power and starts communicating with the device. The Power that's transmitted is shared (energy harvesting mode) with a ATtiny402. When powered it starts…

NFC message switcher: common questions

What microcontroller does the NFC message switcher use?

The NFC message switcher is built around the ATTINY402, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the NFC message switcher PCB?

The NFC message switcher measures 85.6 × 54 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the NFC message switcher?

8 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the NFC message switcher design files?

From the Iceteavanill/NFC_message_switcher repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the NFC message switcher design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Iceteavanill. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the NFC message switcher without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
