About the TurnTimer PCB

TurnTimer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by ihmnelson, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 23 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_Socket, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 8 switches, 8 resistors, 4 connectors and 1 buzzer.

From the project

Turn timer file repo for Tabletop Gaming Club collab as part of Electronics Club @ UWB 2026.

A chess-clock-style turn timer for tabletop games, built for the Tabletop Gaming Club as part of Electronics Club @ UWB. Custom PCB (Arduino Nano + 0.96" 160×80 TFT + buzzer + 8 buttons) instead of a phone app or a pile of loose sand timers.

Each player gets a time bank (default 10 min) that only counts down on their turn. Supports 2-6 players, with a settings menu for per-player time, a periodic beep interval, a low-time warning, and mute. Players are eliminated when their bank hits zero; the display shows whose turn it is and how much time everyone has left.

TurnTimer: common questions

What microcontroller does the TurnTimer use?

The TurnTimer is built around the Arduino_Nano_Socket, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the TurnTimer PCB?

The TurnTimer measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TurnTimer?

23 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TurnTimer design files?

From the ihmnelson/Turn-Timer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TurnTimer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ihmnelson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the TurnTimer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
