About the Gcvideo PCB

Gcvideo is an open source FPGA PCB design by ikorb, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 49 × 30 mm, with 44 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 220-1492, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the 1016-1935 and 296-1699-1. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 9 connectors, 8 resistors, 3 ICs, 1 jumper and 1 inductor.

GameCube Digital AV converter

This is the first prototype GCVideo Lite board with analog outputs in RGB and Component/YPbPr formats, revision 0.9. This revision has a few minor annoyances, but has proven to work.

The board has five connectors and one jumper: The main signal and power input is the 11x2 connector P1 which connects to the GameCube Digital Video port. The 6x1 connector on the side is the JTAG connector which is needed to program the FPGA on the board. Signal outputs are on the 5x1 and 4x1 connectors. There is also a 2x2 connector labelled "spare" next to the P1 and JTAG connectors which at this time is…

Gcvideo: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gcvideo use?

The Gcvideo is built around the 220-1492, from the FPGA family.

How big is the Gcvideo PCB?

The Gcvideo measures 49 × 30 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gcvideo?

44 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gcvideo design files?

From the ikorb/gcvideo repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gcvideo design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ikorb. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Gcvideo without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
