About the Minicurrent PCB

Minicurrent is an open source STM32 PCB design by jemos, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70 × 60 mm, with 24 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM809/810, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LMV321 and MAX4239AUT. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 7 capacitors and 4 ICs.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

JLCPCB cheaper variant of uCurrent and TinyCurrent.

A low-cost, low-burden current-measuring adapter inspired by the uCurrent, designed for hobbyists, students, and anyone interested in side-channel or low-power measurements.

miniCurrent is a port of the original uCurrent design to KiCad, with a bill of materials (BOM) optimized for JLCPCB's basic parts. This reduces the build cost to around €8 (compared to ~€60 for the original) without sacrificing measurement accuracy for typical use cases.

Minicurrent: common questions

What microcontroller does the Minicurrent use?

The Minicurrent is built around the STM809/810, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Minicurrent PCB?

The Minicurrent measures 70 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Minicurrent?

24 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Minicurrent design files?

From the jemos/minicurrent repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Minicurrent design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jemos. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Minicurrent without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
