About the Rodgers-890-midi PCB

Rodgers-890-midi is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by jhpinder, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 96.3 × 93.5 mm, with 72 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Leonardo, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 7417 and 4050. By type, the board carries 29 test points, 25 resistors, 9 capacitors, 4 transistors, 2 ICs and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the audio and keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Non-destructive midi conversion for Rodgers 890 Westminster digital organ

When installed and used correctly, this project:

- allows the 890 console to be used as a MIDI controller/receiver - prevents the 890 from emitting any original analog sounds - is non-destructive to the original analog tone generation - gives the option to revert back to the original 890 analog tone generation

The 890 reads in keyboards/pistons/stops using 4021 shift registers. There are five data input chains: - swell - great - pedal - choir - drawknobs/tablets

Rodgers-890-midi: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rodgers-890-midi use?

The Rodgers-890-midi is built around the Arduino_Leonardo, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Rodgers-890-midi PCB?

The Rodgers-890-midi measures 96.3 × 93.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rodgers-890-midi?

72 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rodgers-890-midi design files?

From the jhpinder/rodgers-890-midi repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rodgers-890-midi design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jhpinder. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Rodgers-890-midi without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
