About the SAO101 PCB

SAO101 is an open source PCB design by joshajohnson, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 34.4 × 20.2 mm, with 35 components from 5 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 16 diodes, 16 resistors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 capacitor.

From the project

A monthly hardware meetup for anyone interested in electronics / hardware.

This talk will cover the process of designing, manufacturing, and assembling electronic hardware, with a focus on how to use KiCad to design and layout a PCB. Using a keyboard Josh designed as an example, aspects of the process such as circuit design, PCB layout and assembly, along with programming and mechanical design will be demonstrated, with the goal of providing an overview of the process for anyone interested in designing their own hardware.

SAO101: common questions

How big is the SAO101 PCB?

The SAO101 measures 34.4 × 20.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SAO101?

35 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SAO101 design files?

From the joshajohnson/CBRhardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SAO101 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with joshajohnson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
