About the Keycard shell PCB

Keycard shell is an open source STM32 PCB design by keycard-tech, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 95 × 130 mm, with 134 components from 55 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H573VIT6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the SY8088IAAC, MP2607DL-LF-P, XC6194AA05ER-G, NCP115AMX150TCG and TLVH431AQDBZRG4. By type, the board carries 50 capacitors, 31 resistors, 10 ICs, 7 transistors, 6 connectors and 6 diodes.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Modular, fully open hardware wallet

For security reasons Shell in presales and sales have a locked bootloader that can only run firmwares which have been signed by Keycard CA key. This insures our users that they can trust the software they run.

For developers who want to develop Shell firmware, you will find in this folder the full design of a development board for Shell

The folder '/devboard_v1' contains this design. Please note that there are some differences in the STM32 pinout between this development board version and shell board.

The KiCad project lives in the keycard-tech/keycard-shell repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

Keycard shell: common questions

What microcontroller does the Keycard shell use?

The Keycard shell is built around the STM32H573VIT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Keycard shell PCB?

The Keycard shell measures 95 × 130 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Keycard shell?

134 components, from 55 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Keycard shell design files?

From the keycard-tech/keycard-shell repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Keycard shell design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which keycard-tech chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Keycard shell without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
