About the LuxMeter PCB

LuxMeter is an open source STM32 PCB design by legend9ama, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 50 mm, with 36 components from 23 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C89040, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the C78960, C632000 and C150772. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 8 capacitors, 5 connectors, 4 ICs, 3 diodes and 2 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

LuxMeter started as a PCB design assignment for my Fundamentals of Electronics course.

LuxMeter started as a PCB design assignment for my Fundamentals of Electronics course.

The requirement was just to submit the layout files, but I decided to go all the way. I ordered the PCBAs and wrote the firmware.

This repository contains the hardware design files (KiCad), schematics, and manufacturing data.

The full schematic design is available in the LuxMeter/ folder.

LuxMeter: common questions

What microcontroller does the LuxMeter use?

The LuxMeter is built around the C89040, from the STM32 family.

How big is the LuxMeter PCB?

The LuxMeter measures 40 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the LuxMeter?

36 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the LuxMeter design files?

From the legend9ama/LuxMeterPCB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the LuxMeter design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which legend9ama chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the LuxMeter without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
