About the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc

MGMS PCB-PcbDoc is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by liu2g, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 96 × 71.4 mm, with 40 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino 3.3v regulator, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the Battery Protection IC for LiPo, MOSFET 2 N-CH 20V 6.5A 8TSSOP, Arduino ATMEGA328 Chip, Single Bus 3-State Buffer and XBEE 3 SMD. By type, the board carries 13 capacitors, 8 ICs, 6 resistors, 5 connectors, 1 transistor and 1 diode.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, power & battery and rf & radio designs in this gallery.

Detailed component list see Bill of Material.

Following figures demonstrate a 3D mockup of the device as well as the alpha-prototype. The PCB was designed in such a way that it could tightly fit into a handhold-sized weatherproof enclosure, interfaced with a similar-sized solar panel and lithium-ion battery pack. The system's sunlight sensor and radio antenna are cautiously positioned to avoid being obstructed by other components.

MGMS PCB-PcbDoc: common questions

What microcontroller does the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc use?

The MGMS PCB-PcbDoc is built around the Arduino 3.3v regulator, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc?

The MGMS PCB-PcbDoc measures 96 × 71.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc?

40 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc design files?

From the liu2g/mgms repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which liu2g chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MGMS PCB-PcbDoc without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
