About the Audio Slice PCB

Audio Slice is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by LOEWE-emergenCITY, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 79 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32-16A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the ReSpeaker_4-Mic_Linear_Array, TPA3140D2PWPR and slice_connector_male. By type, the board carries 42 capacitors, 18 resistors, 5 connectors, 5 inductors, 4 ICs and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

The modular, research-friendly smart home hub

For developing we used KiCAD which is an open source CAD software. It was used by the Raspberry Pi Foundation for their IO Board and the Compute Module.

ONLY store files we already build. First step will only have project and schematics!

Each subdir is a stand alone KiCAD project.

The top level project is - for referencing the different schematics - showing the dependencies between the different PCBs - documentation - generating a full bill of material

Audio Slice: common questions

What microcontroller does the Audio Slice use?

The Audio Slice is built around the ATmega32-16A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Audio Slice PCB?

The Audio Slice measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Audio Slice?

79 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Audio Slice design files?

From the LOEWE-emergenCITY/freespeaker repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Audio Slice design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with LOEWE-emergenCITY. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Audio Slice without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
