About the Dshot esc-100a PCB

Dshot esc-100a is an open source STM32 PCB design by Lucas-Poulos, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80 × 68 mm, with 160 components from 43 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G071CBT6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the DRV8323RSRGZT and SN74LVC1G97DBVR. By type, the board carries 69 resistors, 50 capacitors, 12 transistors, 9 diodes, 8 ICs and 7 connectors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

12V/100A three-phase all-NMOS motor driver (drone ESC): DRV8323R + 12x N-channel MOSFET, STM32G071 running AM32, DShot150/300/600/1200

A 12 V, 100 A three-phase all-N-channel motor driver for a high-power drone motor, controllable over DShot150/300/600/1200.

Status: schematic complete and ERC-clean (160 components). PCB floorplanned and DRC-clean — 80 × 68 mm, 4 layers, 2 oz outer. Routing not started.

A P-channel high-side switch is the easy way to build a bridge and the wrong way here — P-channel parts with usable R_DS(on) at 100 A don't exist in a sane package. Both rails are N-channel, so the high-side gate has to be driven above the battery rail.

Dshot esc-100a: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dshot esc-100a use?

The Dshot esc-100a is built around the STM32G071CBT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Dshot esc-100a PCB?

The Dshot esc-100a measures 80 × 68 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dshot esc-100a?

160 components, from 43 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dshot esc-100a design files?

From the Lucas-Poulos/dshot-esc-100a repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dshot esc-100a design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Lucas-Poulos. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dshot esc-100a without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
