About the Camel PCB

Camel is an open source STM32 PCB design by metaquantus, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 55 × 28 mm, with 49 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L071KBU6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP1700T-3302E/TT and HX712. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 15 diodes, 11 resistors, 4 ICs, 1 switch and 1 inductor.

From the project

Camel Dual HX711 Weigh Scales Board

Camel is a board with Dual HX712 Weigh Scales ADCs controlled by a low power STM32L010F4 or STM32L031F6 MCU providing an I2C slave interface. Power is provided by an I2C Adafruit STEMMA compatible 4-pin JST PH (2mm pitch) connector. This board will work with power from 3.3V to 5V, but it's better if VCC > 4V.

It was intended to support the integrated scales mod for the Gaggia Classic Pro espresso machine provided by the Gaggiuino project. But instead of the main MCU driving the HX712s directly, sensor reading and decoding is offloaded to this board's MCU and a simple I2C interface is used…

Camel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Camel use?

The Camel is built around the STM32L071KBU6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Camel PCB?

The Camel measures 55 × 28 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Camel?

49 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Camel design files?

From the metaquantus/camel repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Camel design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which metaquantus chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Camel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
