About the Osu taiko drum PCB

Osu taiko drum is an open source STM32 PCB design by not-forest, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 45 mm, with 30 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LM358 and LM3940IMPX-3.3_NOPB. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 9 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 1 crystal and 1 diode.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

Osu compatible taiko drum powered with STM32 microcontroller.

A cross-platform, DIY Taiko drum controller designed for playing osu!taiko on PC. This controller functions as a fully configurable keypad that detects vibration-based hits and maps them to keypress events, serving as a general-purpose input device.

- Hardware schematics and PCB layout - Firmware written in Rust using RTIC framework - GUI interface for configuring the drum from the host side (TODO!) - Jupyter notebook for simulating piezoelectric sensor signals and modeling post-processing, which is then rewritten within the firmware in no_std environment - A command-line utility for…

Osu taiko drum: common questions

What microcontroller does the Osu taiko drum use?

The Osu taiko drum is built around the STM32F103C8Tx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Osu taiko drum PCB?

The Osu taiko drum measures 50 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Osu taiko drum?

30 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Osu taiko drum design files?

From the not-forest/osu-taiko-drum repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Osu taiko drum design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with not-forest. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Osu taiko drum without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
