About the IOBoard PCB

IOBoard is an open source PCB design by OpenVVVF, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 260 × 45 mm, with 23 components from 14 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the DRDNB21D-7 and BTS462TATMA1. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 7 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 relays, 2 diodes and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-source high-power 3-phase VSI with independent safety coprocessor, fully isolated gate drives, and node-based codegen configuration tools. Firmware, RTE, and telemetry live in OpenVVVF/RTE.

Our current in-progress build photos for size 2 are below, thanks again to our sponsors for helping make this possible

An open-source, high-power voltage-source inverter (VSI) for 3-phase AC drives. The design centres on a dual-MCU control board with an independent safety coprocessor, fully isolated gate drives and sensing, dual isolated CAN buses, and a control stack configurable through node-based codegen tools.

IOBoard: common questions

How big is the IOBoard PCB?

The IOBoard measures 260 × 45 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the IOBoard?

23 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the IOBoard design files?

From the OpenVVVF/Hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the IOBoard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license, which OpenVVVF chose for the repository.
