About the Ethernetcnc PCB

Ethernetcnc is an open source STM32 PCB design by pekkaroi, published on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 73 × 100 mm, with 94 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F407VG, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the NCP1117ST50T3G, LM2734 and DP83848. By type, the board carries 36 capacitors, 17 resistors, 14 connectors, 5 diodes, 4 ICs and 2 crystals.

From the project

This is my project for controlling CNC machine via ethernet port using LinuxCNC. It was originally shortly instroduced at http://pekka.eu/cnc. After receiving questions about it every now and then, I decided to publish it.

There is very little to no documentation about the project right now - hopefully that will change some day. There is the firmware for STM32F407, the kicad PCB and a LinuxCNC driver available.

Ethernetcnc: common questions

What microcontroller does the Ethernetcnc use?

The Ethernetcnc is built around the STM32F407VG, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Ethernetcnc PCB?

The Ethernetcnc measures 73 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Ethernetcnc?

94 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Ethernetcnc design files?

From the pekkaroi/ethernetcnc repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Ethernetcnc design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-2.0 license, which pekkaroi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Ethernetcnc without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
