Our experiment aims to evaluate the use of optical navigation with Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) products for use in spaceflight applications. To conduct the experiment, an autonomous attitude determination and control system (ADCS) employing an optical navigation system (ONS) will be designed to control a 1U CubeSat, codenamed Commercial Optical Navigation Satellite (CONSat).

MainFlightComputer: common questions

What microcontroller does the MainFlightComputer use?

The MainFlightComputer is built around the STM32H533VET6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the MainFlightComputer PCB?

The MainFlightComputer measures 66 × 60 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MainFlightComputer?

55 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MainFlightComputer design files?

From the RockSat-X/RSXVT2026 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MainFlightComputer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which RockSat-X chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MainFlightComputer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
