About the Main PCB

Main is an open source NXP PCB design by root670, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 97 × 94 mm, with 15 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the SN74AHCT125PW. By type, the board carries 10 connectors, 3 ICs, 1 jumper and 1 capacitor.

From the project

Dance pad using FSRs and RGB LEDs in an extruded aluminum frame.

Breakout board for a Teensy 4.1 with 4 RJ45 connectors to connect the sensors from each arrow and 5 3-pin screw terminals to connect the lights. An additional 3-pin screw terminal is available for an auxilary lighting strip.

* At least a 6A 5V DC power supply is needed to support displaying all LEDs at maximum brightness.

The LED pins for the four arrows don't allow for "parallel output" with FastLED or WS2812Serial because I didn't realize only a subset of pins support that feature. The AuxLED pin however should work with parallel output. Silkscreen labels are missing for most connectors.

Main: common questions

What microcontroller does the Main use?

The Main is built around the Teensy4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the Main PCB?

The Main measures 97 × 94 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6002 mm thick.

How many components are on the Main?

15 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Main design files?

From the root670/dance-pad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Main design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which root670 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Main without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
