About the Encoder i2c PCB

Encoder i2c is an open source PCB design by samjkent, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 203.2 × 40.6 mm, with 142 components from 8 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the MCP23017-E_SO. By type, the board carries 129 diodes, 6 connectors, 5 resistors and 2 ICs.

KiCAD projects and schematics for I2C controllable LEDs and encoders

128 position encoders with LEDs to display state

Encoder input is read using an MCP23017, and LED state is set using an HT16K33

128 LEDs in a ring around a single encoder, with a circumference of roughly 6cm

4 encoders with 32 LEDs per encoder. Requires 2 MCP23017 to provide enough inputs for the encoders.

Encoder i2c: common questions

How big is the Encoder i2c PCB?

The Encoder i2c measures 203.2 × 40.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Encoder i2c?

142 components, from 8 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Encoder i2c design files?

From the samjkent/encoder-i2c repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Encoder i2c design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with samjkent. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
