About the Shutter speed tester PCB

Shutter speed tester is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by sebastienroy, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 48.3 × 48.3 mm, with 13 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 5 resistors, 4 connectors, 1 module, 1 transistor, 1 switch and 1 diode.

The shutter speed tester is a project which goal is to design and build a tool that allows to test the shutter speed accuracy of a film camera

When people passionated with old film cameras want to use their camera to shoot film, this sometimes results in an over or an under exposed film. This is usually due to the speed of the camera shutter that is not any more accurate. In order to check the shutter speed accuracy, the camera owner has to compare the actual opening time of the shutter with the expected one. This is the purpose of the shutter speed tester : measure the accuracy of shutter…

Shutter speed tester: common questions

What microcontroller does the Shutter speed tester use?

The Shutter speed tester is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Shutter speed tester PCB?

The Shutter speed tester measures 48.3 × 48.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Shutter speed tester?

13 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Shutter speed tester design files?

From the sebastienroy/shutter_speed_tester repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Shutter speed tester design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which sebastienroy chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Shutter speed tester without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
