About the Birdcage automation system PCB

Birdcage automation system is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by SoF4rAway, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 119 × 103.5 mm, with 25 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Uno_R4_WiFi_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM2596_DCDC and Pololu_Breakout_A4988. By type, the board carries 10 connectors, 4 resistors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 modules and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, robotics & motion and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A birdcage automation system based on Arduino UNO R4 WiFi

Open-source firmware, circuit schematics, and mechanical integration for an autonomous IoT bird cage management system. This platform consolidates solid feed dispensing, liquid water monitoring and replenishment, and a single-axis linear brush-and-spray tray cleaning mechanism orchestrated by an Arduino Uno R4 WiFi.

If you use this system, codebase, or hardware design in academic work, please cite the original peer-reviewed publication:

Birdcage automation system: common questions

What microcontroller does the Birdcage automation system use?

The Birdcage automation system is built around the Arduino_Uno_R4_WiFi_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Birdcage automation system PCB?

The Birdcage automation system measures 119 × 103.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Birdcage automation system?

25 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Birdcage automation system design files?

From the SoF4rAway/birdcage-automation-system repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Birdcage automation system design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which SoF4rAway chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Birdcage automation system without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
