About the HotBox PCB

HotBox is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by sundr007, published on GitHub under the GPL-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 29 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the UA78M33CDCYR and DA04-11CGKWA. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 3 modules, 3 transistors, 3 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A benchtop thermal Chamber used to test electronics at elevated ambient temperature. Kicad PCB, STM32 firmware, OpenScad Mechanical

I use this when I'm testing electronics on my benchtop. I put this box on top of what I'm testing to raise the ambient temperature. This is convenient because I can leave my probes and other wires hooked up as is. This box can raise the ambient temperature up to 55C.

The design consists of a finger edge laser cut acrylic box that has a circuit board assembly mount in the top center of it. I put foam on the bottom edge of the box so it can nicely sit on top of wires and cables without air gaps.

HotBox: common questions

What microcontroller does the HotBox use?

The HotBox is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the HotBox PCB?

The HotBox measures 100 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the HotBox?

29 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the HotBox design files?

From the sundr007/HotBox repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the HotBox design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-2.0 license, which sundr007 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the HotBox without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
