About the Keyboard-ISO PCB

Keyboard-ISO is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Supermagnum, published on GitHub under the CC0-1.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 377 × 162.5 mm, with 173 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Teensy++2.0_(Arduino), from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 86 diodes, 83 switches, 3 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A 83 key keyboard, ISO style

It uses 83 1N4148 diodes and three LED's for caps lock, scroll lock, and QWERTY/DVORAK. It also needs pin headers that accepts the pins from a Teensy++2.0.

That makes it easy to replace the Teensy in the case that something goes wrong. Since the Teensy++2.0 is mounted in a socket, there is no special training required because there are no need to solder any SMD components. I think that that makes it easier to mass produce because little training and special tools are required.

Keyboard-ISO: common questions

What microcontroller does the Keyboard-ISO use?

The Keyboard-ISO is built around the Teensy++2.0_(Arduino), from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Keyboard-ISO PCB?

The Keyboard-ISO measures 377 × 162.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Keyboard-ISO?

173 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Keyboard-ISO design files?

From the Supermagnum/83keys repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Keyboard-ISO design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC0-1.0 license, which Supermagnum chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Keyboard-ISO without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
